We have an immediate need for a District Sales Manager/Retail Consultant to provide focused retail operational consulting, while developing pro-active partnerships and becoming the 'Trusted Advisor' in all aspects of their business. Being an hunter by growing sales with existing customers and prospecting new customers is critical to the success of this role. Additional responsibility include: increasing retail assortments, retail sales and profitability of each customer's location, as well as maintain and upgrade the True Value brand in desired markets.

The District Sales Manager/Retail Consultant (RC) has responsibility of being the Retailer's voice to merchandising, distribution, and Retail Support Center (RSC) associates. The District Sales Manager/Retail Consultant can reside in Los Angeles or the surrounding area with the assigned territory being Los Angeles with approximately 30 - 35 Retailers. Wholesales sales for the territory is approximately $40 million. Will involve overnight travel.

Position Description

  • Grow sales by actively prospecting/code calling new customers and increasing share of wallet with existing retailers
  • Conduct regular business reviews with Retailers in the territory to analyze current store sales and profitability. Develop and assist in the execution of action plans that identify specific measurable actions to improve the ongoing retail operations of the Retailer’s location
  • These activities would include but are not limited to sales growth, marketing/advertising, merchandise assortments, financial and margin management, inventory productivity, retail best practices, store layout, Point of Sales (POS) sales analysis and action steps resulting in increased share of wallet (SOW)
  • Collaborate with Regional Managers, Retail Business Managers and Business Development Managers regarding all store expansions/remodels, relocations, branch stores, investors and conversions
  • Collaborate with Regional Managers and Retail Business Managers to develop and implement Retailer specific retention plans
  • Lead and facilitate the development and implementation, centered around the appropriate Destination True Value (DTV) assortment, for each retail location. Provide each Retailer with product knowledge, programs, services and benchmarks related to same

Position Qualifications

Minimum Type and Years of Related Experience Required:

  • Five to seven years of consultative sales experience
  • Strong experience in prospecting/code calling
  • Knowledge of hardware industry preferred but not required
Other Industry/Discipline Experience:
  • Retail experience required
  • Marketing, Merchandising, Supply Chain experience desirable
  • Familiarity with P&L statements; balance sheets; retail operations
  • Strong sales and prospecting ability
  • Problem solving and time management skills
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Strong customer (client) servicing skills
  • Valid driver's license (good driving record)
  • Ability to travel extensively (50-75%), will require overnight travel
  • Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, and preferably PowerPoint Important Decisions/Judgments:

Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
