Job Description

The Communications Specialist reports to the Manager, Corporate Communications and is responsible for developing and managing strategic communication across associate and retailer channels. The position is responsible for strategic campaigns and planning as well as writing and editing, providing compelling ideas, content, and measurement for both electronic and print communication. Research and write news, features, and develop editorial calendars across several platforms including Web, print, executive presentations and company announcements. Distill and communicate straightforward and complex information vital for creating communication that supports Company vision and values and helps drive engagement. Coordinate with communications colleagues and content managers across multiple business units to ensure editorial consistency and standards.

Position Description

Strategy:

  • Serves as a key contributor in the development and execution of communication plans to support company strategies and further associates' understanding of their role in the company's retail success. 
Associate Communication:
  • Intranet - creates weekly editorial blueprints, researches and writes employee news and features.
  • News and Announcements - provides editorial support for distilling company initiatives and policy into reader-friendly news and announcements.
  • Recognition - provides concepts and copy for President's Award and upon request, other employee recognition programs.
  • Human Resources - provides general editorial support to benefits, legal, training and development and recruitment.
Retail:
  • Intranet - creates bi-weekly editorial blueprints, researches and writes retailer news and features.
Corporate Communication:
  • Internet - provides on-going corporate Web content review and updates, and develops news and features.
Shareholder Relations:
  • Assists in the content and production of annual proxy statement, annual report, stockholder's meeting and quarterly financial reporting.
Tracking and Measurement:
  • Monitors weekly readership of Web vehicles and creates usage and readership trend reports. 
Editorial and Brand Standards:
  • Provides on-going review of internet and intranet sites to ensure consistent editorial, grammar and visual standards. 
General:
  • Collaborates and supports other Corporate Communications projects and vehicles as needed; handles own general filing and record keeping.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Type and Years of Related Experience Required:

  • Five to seven years of related experience required
  • Copy editing experience required
  • Experienced in the AP style
  • Experienced in web and social media content development
  • Experienced with electronic/print production
  • Marketing and Agency experience required
  • Proactive, self-motivated with strong initiative and follow through skills required
  • Ability to wear multiple hats. Comfortable working on multiple assignments in a fast-paced, deadline driven, often changing environment
  • Expert in Powerpoint
Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or Business or related work experience
