Job Description

True Value Company, a global wholesaler serving retail locations in 60 countries, has an immediate need for a Category Management Analyst. Reporting to the Director, Category Strategy and Insights, this position will be the analytical and investigative leader that elevates the Merchandising/Buying organization’s strategic performance, and ultimately, the consumer’s shopping experience. The analyst will support Merchandising by providing fact-based, actionable category insights that strengthens the value proposition for both our Retailers/Customers and Shoppers, helping every True Value be the best home improvement store in town. The Analyst’s efforts will impact line review results, assortment relevance, promotional offerings, and the success of True Value’s semi-annual Reunion trade shows.

Position Description

Initiate category line reviews by collaborating with cross-functional teams to create presentation defining the strategic plan for the line review: preliminary goals, sourcing strategy, vendor participation list, etc. The Analyst will then present the strategic plan as the official kick-off of the line review. The Analyst will also participate in vendor meetings throughout the line review as necessary to assist with market/opportunity sizing exercises. In some instances, Analysts will partner with marketing or category management teams of vendors to help develop assortments.

Lead strategic projects, creating value for the organization by driving promotional effectiveness and strategy, measuring assortment performance, activating eCommerce promotions, and executing special projects for key retailers or vendors.

Explore and develop opportunities to analyze new and existing product/category/market/ brand/process opportunities and present data-based insights and conclusions and quantifiable recommendations.

Participate in the semiannual trade show/reunion for True Value retailers/members.

Develop 'store of the community' assortments consistent with industry and retail data to support merchant sales and productivity growth.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Type and Years of Related Experience Required:

  • One to three years of related experience required
  • Category Management, Marketing, Merchandising, Retail, Sales or Wholesale experience preferred
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience in Tableau preferred, but not required
  • Strong analytical skills required
  • Strong project management skills required
Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
