The Chemist applies advanced scientific principles to the formulation of materials to create new coatings products and/or to refine current products. Collaborates with other Senior Personnel for research, analysis, and experimentation on products or raw materials, for such purposes as coatings product and process development and application. Advances to independent project assignments as skills progress.

Position Description

Investigates and develops new technology and methodologies. Conducts research on manufactured products to develop and improve products. New product and /or process development.

Develops and formulates innovative and cost-effective solutions. Researches new and/or alternate raw materials for cost control, plant economies and for the purpose of creating new coatings products or improving existing products..

  • Prepares standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests.
  • Problem solving and disposition of distressed products or raw materials.
  • Provides technical service support including customer complaint investigations.
  • Evaluates and interprets test results and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science from a four-year college or university; or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated skill in identifying solutions and execution.
  • Formulation and development experience with paint and chemicals 
  • PC skills including proficiency in use of MS Access, Word & Excel. 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Ability to write clearly and convey technical data. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. 
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including respirators 
  • Must be quality conscious and interact in a team environment.
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated innovative experience with applied coatings research & development preferred. 
  • Experience with chemical batch processing preferred.
