The Financial Analyst is responsible for moderately complex financial analysis and reporting for the organization. Develops integrated revenue/expense analysis, projections, reports, and presentations. Creates and analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and ensures financial information has been recorded accurately. Identifies trends and developments in competitive environments and presents findings to senior management. Performs financial forecasting and internal account analysis.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Product Line Profitability – Produce monthly reporting decks and monitor metrics to manage P&L. Provides insights and identifies opportunities for revenue and margin improvement through results from line reviews, marketing events, and other sales promotions. Calculates financial impacts and ensures that it is included in future forecasting and budgeting projections.
  • Forecasting/Planning – Takes ownership of the forecasting and planning processes by developing detailed models and analysis to support the sales, margins and inventory projections. Proactively coordinates with Product Merchants and Inventory Planners to ensure projected economic environment and/or corporate initiatives are reflected. Provides management with a summary of changes and their root causes for assigned departments and classes. Performs variance analysis to explain differences between Actuals and Forecast/Plan.
  • Inventory Valuation – Actively evaluates the inventory quality by working with the Merchandising/Buying and Inventory departments to identify potential reserve adjustments and/or recommendations for reduction/disposition. Constructs efficient models which can quickly and accurately forecast the inventory valuation and reserve rates by changing inputs/assumptions. Prepares PowerPoint presentation for senior management to review with Inventory Reporting (audit committee) outlining the current inventory valuation position and reserve changes.
  • Ad Hoc Analysis and Processes – Adds Value and Be Partners with Product Merchants by using business acumen and financial modeling skills to identify areas of risk and opportunity not only with sales and margins but also various marketing and promotion events as well as vendor funded programs. Proactively analyzes large data sets to find and report changes/new trends in economic conditions and present findings to management.

Position Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Three to five years of related experience required
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficient in PowerPoint.  Also must have the ability to manipulate large data sets into meaningful analysis
  • Ability to work with and communicate with all organization levels, potentially senior management; ability to present and explain financial information to non-finance professionals
  • Ownership of assigned tasks and independent initiative, where appropriate, to achieve results
  • Problem solving, analytical and financial modeling skills - ability to identify the root cause of issues, propose possible solutions or improvements and influence ultimate decision

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
