As a critical member of the pricing team, you will oversee key processes to gather, maintain, and utilize competitive price intelligence for the use in setting prices, price changes, and as an input for responding to specific customer pricing requests. Collaborating with other functions, including Pricing, Merchandising and Growth/Sales to analyze trends and mine data to find opportunities for profit and revenue improvements. Responsible for conducting competitive pricing analytics and understanding how True Value wholesale pricing compares to the competition.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (in order of importance):

  • Gather Data and Utilize multiple data sources (internal and external) to identify opportunities for gathering competitive price intelligence
  • Maintain UPC and develop robust ‘like’ match methodology and database
  • Perform competitive price benchmarking against a variety of competitors, identifying product and cost differences
  • Utilize analytics to identify product and category pricing opportunities and trends
  • Develop a reporting cadence of competitive price position and provide regular updates to appropriate teams (Leadership, Pricing, Merchandising, Sales, etc.)
  • Leverage competitive price information to assist in crafting competitor pricing models (e.g. relationships between products, attribute level pricing, performance premiums, etc.)
  • Work with Merchandising and Sales Teams to collaborate on development of competitive intelligence methodologies and develop and improve reporting, including overall price position
  • Serve as the internal expert on competitive pricing

Position Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years pricing / costing analysis experience required
  • Strong analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative) with the ability to turn detailed data into useful and actionable information
  • Understand the financial impact of cost / price decisions
  • Ability to present ideas, conclusions and recommendations with clarity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid public speaking skills; able to present ideas to diverse audiences.
  • High proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and/or Access
  • Experience with audience-tailored data visualizations using BI tools, such as Tableau, is a plus
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, business, mathematics, finance, economics or similar discipline or equivalent work experience
