We have an immediate need for a Business Development Manager. Being an hunter by increasing the number of True Value retail locations within an assigned geographic area is critical. This is accomplished by: a.) driving prospect conversions (80%), b.) optimizing Member retention strategies, c.) site and new prospect identification and d.) Destination True Value Assortments (DTV) implementations with the goal of driving, increasing wholesale and retail sales and profitability for the company and its retailers in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Manager can live in the below cities or surrounding areas:

Position Description

Conversions:
Identify/develop prospects for conversion to True Value Company from competitive channel. Manage the prospecting/selling process for conversion opportunities, by identifying, developing and maintaining a targeted database of hardware/home centers for conversion opportunities in our CRM tool. Engage in team selling activities with assigned Retail Consultants/Districe Managers (RC). Work with both the Retail Consultant and Regional Manager on opportunity development and strategic business plans to help prospects attain retail excellence. Develop conversion plans, containing both action steps and strategic investment to present to Sr. management for financial funding approval. Present formal presentations to prospective members that will influence their transition to True Value. Be the subject matter expert on competitive intelligence for True Value, by maintaining awareness of competitive programs and industry trends to promote sales strategy.

New Stores:
Identity/develop new investors/current members for new and/or branch stores for True Value Company. Manage the prospecting/selling process for new store and branch opportunities, by identifying, developing and maintaining a targeted database of existing members/new investors in our CRM tool. Engage in team selling with the Retail Consultant. Facilitate the process identifying open/new markets and locations. Support the RC's in the solicitation of current True Value members, member from competing co-ops, the acquisition of stores from competition or independent owners and the development of new investor prospects for ownership. Conduct research and profile major markets within assigned area. Proactively work with commercial real estate agents to maintain a list of viable locations to be marketed to new investors, True Value member or in some cases competitive members. Work with both the Retail Consultant and Regional Manager on opportunity development and strategic plans to attain new markets. Engage with finance to qualify new members or branches and develop Proforma’s to determine viability of stores. Assist in developing store plans and new store site assessment. Develop formal presentation outlining strategic investment to present to Sr. management for financial funding approval. Present formal presentations to prospective members that will influence their transition to True Value. Interface with members to discover and evaluate market conditions, determine scope of work required for expansions, DTV conversions, remodels, re-merchandising or other retail growth opportunities. Partner with Regional Managers to identify and prioritize projects. Scope of work required to ascertain viability includes lighting, flooring, store environment, design elements, floor plans, assortment reconciliation, etc. Assess and analyze risk portfolios of current retail operations and competitive at -risk situations with goal of resolving at-risk issues. Collaborate with other internal departments including finance, Credit Services and other stakeholders to complete analysis. Act as liaison with external key financial stakeholders to ensure business is positioned in the most favorable financial position. Develop succession plans to mitigate member erosion.

Responsible for generating revenue. Target value of revenue = $2,150,000. Responsible for generating profit.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Type and Years of Related Experience Required:

  • Seven to ten years of related experience required
  • Strong business development and client relationship management skills required
  • Sales and retail experience required
  • Ability to conduct financial analysis, strong financial acumen
Minimum Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
